CHICAGO, April 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines is teaming up with leading disaster relief organizations to provide aid to those impacted by the recent earthquakes in Japan and Ecuador, and the flooding in Houston. Beginning today, United will provide up to three million bonus miles – one million to each of the affected regions – to MileagePlus members who donate to the organizations.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those affected by these disasters," said Sandra Pineau-Boddison, United's senior vice president of customers. "We know our customers and employees are eager to lend whatever assistance they can to aid in the recovery, and we are proud to offer an additional bonus incentive for their generous donations during this time of need."

MileagePlus members who give to the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Airlink, Global Giving or Operation USA can receive up to 1,000 bonus miles by entering their MileagePlus number at the time of their donation. United will award members miles based on the size of their donation:

  • Donate $50-$99 – Earn 250 bonus miles
  • Donate $100-$249 – Earn 500 bonus miles
  • Donate $250 or more – Earn 1,000 bonus miles

United will award up to three million bonus miles to customers on a first-come, first-served basis based on contributions made through the airline's fundraising page through 11:59 PM CDT on May 10, 2016. United customers have raised approximately $3.5 million in the company's two previous disaster relief campaigns.

Customers can donate to multiple relief efforts and will receive separate bonus miles for each region to which they donate. In addition to offering bonus miles to customers, United is also providing in-kind cargo space to Airlink to help transport relief supplies to Ecuador. Available cargo space will be used to ship items for Airlink, which works with non-government organizations to provide supplies to Ecuador based on greatest need.
