NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations will launch its 50th anniversary year by honoring outstanding leaders in the promotion of constructive Sino-American relations at their annual Gala Dinner on December 15, 2016 in New York City.
Dr. Henry A. Kissinger and Maurice R. Greenberg will be presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their nearly five decades of work with the National Committee and extraordinary service to the global community through helping to build a cooperative U.S.-China relationship. Both have served as vice chairmen of the National Committee's board, have advised both U.S. and Chinese leaders and have had an immeasurable impact on the Sino-American relationship.
Two corporations will be honored for their outstanding leadership and contributions to positive bilateral relations: United Airlines, with CEO Oscar Munoz accepting, and Boeing Commercial Airplanes, with Vice Chairman Ray Conner of the Boeing Company accepting.
In the 30 years since United Airlines first began service to China, the airline has grown to operate more non-stop flights to more cities there than any other U.S. carrier. Now in its 90th year, United has long provided the citizens of our two countries opportunities to experience the other.
Boeing, this year celebrating its centennial, has long-standing relationships with Chinese airlines, the Chinese aviation industry, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the Chinese government. In 1972, the historic visit by President Richard Nixon to China led to the introduction of Boeing aircraft there and over 40 years of serving in the development of China's air transport system.
The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding, in 1966, at the Gala Dinner held at Cipriani Wall Street, which will be attended by more than 600 corporate and policy leaders, as well as leading figures in the U.S.-China relationship, including the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United States Cui Tiankai.
The event will highlight the National Committee's historic role, including participation in the 1972 Ping Pong Diplomacy exchange, and present a vision for its future work that includes strategic dialogues, engaging policy leaders and educating people on both sides of the Pacific about the importance of constructive Sino-American relations. The National Committee on U.S.-China Relations is the leading nonprofit nonpartisan organization that encourages understanding of China and the United States among citizens of both countries.
