Latest investment builds on United’s commitment to Guam, including a refreshed check-in lobby at Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport
CHICAGO and HAGÅTÑA, Guam, October 13, 2026 – United Airlines® is continuing to rollout fast, free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus® members, with installations now underway on the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet.
United has completed installation on two of its Guam-based MAX 8 aircraft, among the first of the airline’s MAX 8 fleet to receive Starlink. United Chief Customer Officer David Kinzelman traveled to Guam to announce the milestone today at a press conference at Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport.
The addition of Starlink comes as United confirms it has completed the transition of its Guam-based fleet to newer Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft ahead of schedule, delivering a more modern onboard experience for customers traveling throughout Guam, Micronesia and the broader Pacific region.
“Guam is where two of our biggest customer investments come together," said David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer. "We said we would replace the entire Guam fleet with MAX 8 aircraft by the end of this year, and we've finished early. Now those same aircraft are among the first MAX 8s in our fleet to get Starlink. Starlink is a game changer for our customers, delivering the fast, reliable connectivity they expect, and we’re proud that our Guam-based aircraft are among the first of our MAX 8s to receive it.”
Bringing Starlink to Guam
Starlink uses low-Earth orbit satellites to deliver fast and reliable internet connectivity, including over oceans and in remote regions that have traditionally been difficult to reach with conventional inflight Wi-Fi. The technology is particularly impactful across United’s Pacific network, where many flights operate over long stretches of open ocean and connect remote communities.
United customers using Starlink can stay connected with family and friends, access information and services online, work remotely and enjoy entertainment throughout their journey, with a faster, more responsive internet experience in flight than traditional broadband services available in many parts of Micronesia.
United has been rapidly expanding Starlink and expects to complete installations throughout its fleet before the end of 2027. Since launching Starlink Wi-Fi last spring, United has flown more than 37.7 million passengers on Starlink-equipped aircraft across more than 538,000 flights, powering more than 14 million devices — and Wi-Fi customer satisfaction scores on those airplanes nearly doubled during that time. Starlink is now available on about 47% of United’s daily flights.
Starlink is free for MileagePlus members in every class of service and allows customers to connect multiple devices at the same time. Customers will receive a notification before their flight if it's equipped with Starlink. Visit united.com/starlink for additional information.
United Completes Guam MAX 8 Transition Ahead of Schedule
United has also completed the replacement of its Guam-based Boeing 737-800 fleet with ten newer Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, ahead of its previously announced schedule. The MAX 8 aircraft feature United’s signature interior with seatback entertainment at every seat, larger overhead bins, more extra-legroom seating, USB charging and wireless Bluetooth connectivity.
The airline first unveiled its Guam-based MAX 8 fleet in March this year, with the aircraft progressively introduced on routes throughout the region. The MAX 8 aircraft now operate all United’s narrowbody flying from Guam, including service throughout Micronesia and to destinations across Asia.
United’s Guam-based narrowbody fleet serves 15 destinations from Guam, including the airline’s unique Island Hopper service. United also operates extensive service between Guam and Japan and flights throughout the region.
United’s Boeing 737 MAX 8s have 164 seats, including 14 United First® seats, and feature 13-inch high-definition screens in United First and 10-inch HD screens in United Economy®. The aircraft are also specially configured to support the needs of communities across Micronesia; the front rows of Economy can be converted when necessary to accommodate a medical stretcher for patients requiring medevac transportation.
Investing in Guam
The introduction of Starlink is the latest in a series of significant investments United has made in Guam over the past 12 months.
In addition to introducing the new MAX 8 fleet, United has refreshed its check-in lobby at Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport, including new next-generation kiosks and a redesigned layout intended to create a more streamlined experience and reduce congestion for customers.
Together, the investments are designed to provide a more consistent, modern experience for customers from the moment they arrive at the airport through their time onboard.
United is one of the largest private employers in the region, with more than 1,000 employees throughout Guam and Micronesia, many of whom have worked for the airline for more than 30 years. As Guam’s hometown airline, United also supports numerous nonprofit organizations across the region through annual donations and hundreds of volunteer hours from local employees.
